THE UT.LAB’s Student Design Contest to Benefit Teach for America

THE UT.LAB currently donates a portion of all sales to Teach for America in the Las Vegas Valley, helping to grow math and science education. Now, we’re going one step further and hosting a shoe design contest for students in these TFA classrooms. We’ll select finalists and then let our Facebook fans vote on two winning designs, which we’ll manufacture and sell in Summer 2014. All profits will be donated to TFA: Las Vegas Valley.

The Challenge:

Could you be a footwear design star? Come up with a new Tyvek print for our LIGHT WING TRAINER and we’ll produce and sell your winning design!

What is Tyvek?

Tyvek [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyvek] looks and feels just like paper, but is actually a brand of flash spun high-density polyethylene fibers. It was invented by DupontTM in the 1950s. Commonly, it’s used as an insulation and weatherproofing material for houses. Waterproof but also breathable, Tyvek is a comfortable, strong, and unique shoe material.

The Contest has Several Phases:

Phase I: 2013 - October 22-November 10

Teach for America teachers in the Las Vegas Valley register their classrooms to participate.

Phase II: 2013 -November 15- 2014 - February 28th

Students submit their designs to THE UT.LAB.

Phase III:2014- March 1-March 15

Phase IV: 2014 - April 1

Students resubmit their designs after taking THE UT.LAB’s comments into consideration.

Phase V: 2014 -June 1 . Winners from the second submissions (up to 20) are posted onto THE UT.LAB’s social media pages and voted on by followers.

Phase VI: 2014 - June 1 - June 10
